Character helpers: This would probably be the most gray-area implementation of RMT, but again, it doesn't really offer a competitive edge for those with more Destiny Gold RL cash. Examples of safe character helpers include buying stat/skill/mastery respecs, extra vault/backpack space, additional chat channels, etc.
Extra content: Even subscription-based MMORPGs charge us for expansion packs and this is basically the same concept - as long as the new content doesn't reward you with better loot or give you an unfair advantage. Maybe you can only access certain clubs if you "bribe" the bouncer. Maybe you need to pay a little cash to gain new information about a new, exclusive quest chain from certain shady individuals (e.g., bounty hunters). Maybe even certain planets are controlled by crime syndicates and you need to pay your way onto them with RL money (it will give you an entirely new way to level an Alt or perhaps access to gear that is equal to but looks much different than other gear from other planets). The options are endless.
You'll notice that none of the above-mentioned ideas give someone an unfair advantage. That's the way you have to implement RMT to make it fair and widely appealing. I can imagine there are a lot of people who would love to pay RL money to buy 10 new ranks for their character, +25 to all stats, or even a lightsaber that is 10x more powerful than the normal one, but that's just not cool.
